Parsonage and Manor

In 1851 this house was owned and occupied by William Townsend He lived there with his wife, four daughters and his young son Thomas who was destined to be his heir and further develop the family's financial and religious dominance of the village.

William farmed 200 acres within the parish and was in the process of buying up more land.

The vicarage had originally been built about 1685 and added to over the years. It was extended in 1760 by the addition of another wing at a total cost of £120.18s.7d. It had usually housed the vicar, but in 1851 the then incumbent Reverend J. C. H. Moor lived at the Elms.
